    Not as good as expected

    The microscope as very well presented with everything in a nice carry case. However I upon unpacking I found it to be rather more plasticky than I had expected, making it lightweight. It just didn’t feel as sturdy as I had hoped.
    I was particularly unimpressed by the plastic sight tube as it meant the eyepiece lens was extremely difficult to change, a very fine thread in plastic makes it easy for young hands to cross thread which would be a disaster.
    Whilst I appreciate that optical devices have fine threaded parts (I was originally a machine shop scientific instrument maker) they are usually metal not plastic. I feel that as this is child’s device rather than a professional one more thought should have been given to ability to easily change the eyepiece lens.
    Beyond that it is a good introduction to the world of microscopes and the wonders they can reveal.
