The M837L series compound microscope is a class leader offering professional features at an affordable price. This darkfield version provides an additional observation method to enhance contrast when viewing certain low-contrast specimens including unstained live cells. Along with the microscope's standard condenser and objective lenses used for brightfield observation, a specialized darkfield condenser and 100X variable-aperture lens are included.
Viewing Head
The trinocular viewing head has a comfortable 45° incline for viewing while seated or standing, and can be swiveled 360°. Ocular spacing can be easily customized using sliding interpupillary adjustment. Dual diopters allow both eyepieces to be focused independently. The trinocular photo-port adds a dedicated mounting tube for cameras. The 23mm tube is height-adjustable to fine-tune the focus to match the eyepieces. Its simul-focal design allows simultaneous use with both eyepieces so no switching is necessary.
Optics
The microscope is equipped with four objective lenses mounted on a rotating turret to quickly move through the various magnifications. The lenses use DIN international standards, and are achromatically corrected to improve clarity and color accuracy. They provide a magnification range from 10X to 1000X when used with the standard 10X eyepieces, ideal for viewing a wide range of specimens including cellular structures and bacteria. Additional 25X eyepieces are included to expand the maximum magnification to 2500X with 6 unique levels.

Specimen Stage
The 2-layer mechanical stage provides smooth and precise movement for examination of specimen slides. The stage's low-position controls are conveniently placed near the coaxial focus knobs for a streamlined workflow. Examining specimen slides is intuitive and precise for users at any skill level. A convenient lever grouped with the left-side focus knobs can be used to lock and unlock the stage’s height adjustment to prevent damage to the lenses and specimen.
LED Illumination
The LED sub-stage lighting provides cool, energy-efficient illumination. The light-source is daylight balanced to produce natural colors. The Abbe light condenser has a high 1.25 numerical aperture for oil-immersion, and an iris diaphragm to optimize contrast and depth-of-field. The condenser holder uses rack-and-pinion height adjustment for precision control.
A sub-stage mirror is included as an alternate light source when electricity is not available. The mirror can be mounted on top of the illuminator’s field lens to direct ambient light into the condenser.
Darkfield Observation
An oil darkfield condenser and specialized 100X darkfield objective lens are included for darkfield observation. The condenser is designed for use with immersion oil, and can accommodate higher numerical-aperture lenses. Two centering screws allow you to properly center the condenser for optimal contrast. The 100X plan-achromatic lens has a built-in iris to adjust its numerical aprture for fine-tuning contrast. Darkfield observation will provide contrast in otherwise indistinguishable objects by highlighting changes in refractive index. This is particularly useful for observing live cells including blood analysis.
Digital Imaging
The included 14MP camera and software allow you to preview and record photos and videos on your computer. The camera attaches to your computer using a simple USB 2.0 connection. Our professional software for Windows provides a wide assortment of capture and photo-editing functions including color correction, time-lapse capture, and a full complement of measuring tools. Cutting-edge features such as real-time auto-stitching and focus-stacking add new dimensions to imaging. A lite version of our software is available for Mac and Linux with essential functionality for capturing photos and videos.
